“At that time a severe famine struck the land of Canaan, forcing Abram to go down to Egypt, where he lived as a foreigner…” (Genesis 12:9-20). Abraham felt constrained to become an economic migrant without careful thought and prayer. Without God’s clear direction, this move led to a series of complexities: faithless, fear-induced deception, compromise, couple separation and dishonour. Abraham repeated this deception (Genesis 20), and it became a family pattern with Isaac (Genesis 26:1-11), etc.
No matter the ‘positive’ outcomes of lies and deception, true believers must resist them but seek God’s wisdom to handle difficult situations. And when others (spouses, family members, friends, colleagues and managers) attempt to pressurise us into lies and deception, stand firmly, forthrightly and faithfully, no matter the cost. As much as God is willing to forgive us, without breaking such habits, often coupled with well-guided counselling from mature believers on confession or restitution, we risk eternal damnation by God in the fiery lake (Revelation 21:8, 22:15). Hmmm! LORD, grant us faith, courage, and resilience, to value our eternal souls more than temporal ‘gains’. (Mark 8:36-38). AMEN.
