Title: Abiding Joy and Peace

Key Texts: Philippians 4: 4-8; Romans 8: 28-30

Key Verse: “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4, NLT).

Message

“Rejoice in the Lord always!” chants Apostle Paul from prison to the Philippians. It’s only God who can give joy in the middle of painful experiences, stress and loss. While happiness depends on happenings (pleasant events and experiences),the Christian joy is not dependent on what’s happening to us, pleasant or not, and how we feel. Rather, it’s a deeper, more settled stability of our soul and spirit in the Lord, based on a real relationship and walk with a God who loves and cares for us so much that He would give us anything for our peace, if in line with His sovereign will and wisdom. We, therefore, live in the assurance that He gives us the very best. Even when for some reason things go wrong, He makes all things work together for the good of those who love Him, those who are called according to His purpose. – Romans 8:28-30 says:

28 And we know that God causes everything to work together[a] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn[b] among many brothers and sisters. 30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.

How we so much need to hold on to His hands and trust Him for all time; leaving our past behind after learning lessons from it, living peacefully in the present, and leaning on our Risen, Reigning and Returning King for the future.

Key Point: Christ gives joy and peace, no matter the circumstances.
